Privacy Policy
Effective January 1, 2026
1. Introduction
Bridget ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Bridget app and related services ("the Service").
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at team@joinbridget.org.
SMS Messaging Privacy
Bridget offers language learning messages by SMS, MMS, and/or RCS to users who choose to opt in. These messages may include daily lesson briefings, language comprehension practice drills, adaptive review questions, reminders, progress updates, and account-related messages.
When you provide your mobile phone number to Bridget, we use it to send the messages you requested and to manage your participation in Bridget’s messaging program.
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or SMS consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in data and consent are not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
Message frequency varies based on your interaction with Bridget, your account settings, and your learning activity. Message and data rates may apply.
You can opt out of Bridget text messages at any time by replying STOP. After you reply STOP, we may send one final confirmation message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. You can reply HELP for help or visit https://joinbridget.org.
Bridget may use service providers, such as messaging platforms and infrastructure providers, to deliver and manage SMS, MMS, and RCS messages. These providers are only authorized to process your information as needed to provide messaging services on Bridget’s behalf.
For questions about Bridget’s messaging program or this Privacy Policy, contact us at team@joinbridget.org.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
—
Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account
—
Language preferences: Your target heritage language and self-reported fluency level
—
Profile information: Optional background information such as your cultural or family context (e.g., 'Spanish-speaking in-laws'), used to personalize your content feed
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
—
Comprehension data: Your responses to in-video comprehension moments — what you understood, what you missed, and how you engaged with each scenario
—
Usage data: Which scenarios you watched, how long you engaged, whether you replayed segments, and how you interact with the feed
—
Device information: Device type, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers
—
Log data: IP address, access times, screens viewed, and app crashes
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect audio recordings, video recordings, or any biometric data. We do not collect your spoken responses, as the Service is designed for comprehension — not speech production.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
—
Deliver and personalize the Service: Adapt your content feed based on comprehension signals — targeting the gaps, building on what you understood
—
Improve our comprehension corpus: Aggregate comprehension data (anonymized and de-identified) to improve adaptive targeting across diaspora languages, including Twi, Haitian Creole, Patois, Ga, Yoruba, and Spanish
—
Improve AI-generated content: Use engagement and comprehension signals to improve the quality and cultural accuracy of scenarios
—
Communicate with you: Send service-related notifications, updates, or responses to your inquiries
—
Ensure security and integrity: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and technical issues
—
Comply with legal obligations: Respond to lawful requests from authorities when required
We do not use your information to train general-purpose AI models unrelated to the Service.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
4.1 Service Providers
We may share information with third-party vendors who assist us in operating the Service — such as cloud infrastructure providers, analytics tools, and AI generation APIs. These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as directed by us and in accordance with this policy.
4.2 Aggregated and De-Identified Data
We may share aggregated, anonymized comprehension and usage data — for example, patterns in how Twi heritage speakers process certain linguistic structures — for research, publishing, or product development purposes. This data cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
4.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, or valid legal process (such as a court order or subpoena).
4.4 Business Transfers
If Bridget is acquired, merged, or its assets are transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent in-app notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We retain anonymized comprehension and usage data indefinitely, as it forms a core part of our adaptive language corpus.
If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or preventing fraud).
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
—
Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
—
Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
—
Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
—
Portability: Request your data in a portable format
—
Opt-out: Opt out of certain data uses, including marketing communications
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at team@joinbridget.org. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at team@joinbridget.org.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access.
10. AI-Generated Content and Data
Bridget uses third-party AI generation APIs to produce video scenarios. When scenarios are generated, limited contextual prompts (such as target language and cultural scenario type) may be transmitted to those providers. We do not transmit your personal identity or comprehension history to AI generation providers.
Comprehension data — what you understood and what you missed — is stored by us and used to improve your adaptive feed. This data is the core of how Bridget works.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the Service before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact
