We've gathered all the answers you're looking for about using Bridget on web, iPhone, and Android — neatly organized just for you.
Bridget is an educational language app for first-gen families and cross-cultural couples — a short-video feed in your target language that tracks what you understand and closes the gap in real time. For the couples, the kids, and the grandparents who shouldn't need a translator.
Bridget works in your browser on web and mobile. On iPhone and Android, you can also add it to your home screen for a full-screen, app-like experience — no App Store or Play Store download required.
Installing Bridget as a Progressive Web App (PWA) gives you the closest experience to a native app:
—
Opens in full screen without the browser address bar
—
Launches directly from your home screen with one tap
—
Keeps you signed in between sessions
—
Uses your device's status bar styling for a polished, app-like feel
You can use Bridget in any browser on web or mobile without installing it. Adding it to your home screen on iPhone or Android is optional, but it is the best way to get a dedicated, full-screen experience on your phone.
On iPhone and iPad, you must use Safari to install Bridget. Chrome and other browsers on iOS cannot add PWAs to the home screen.
Steps:
—
Open Safari and go to joinbridget.org
—
Sign in or create your account if you have not already
—
Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up)
—
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
—
Edit the name if you like, then tap Add in the top-right corner
—
Bridget will appear on your home screen — tap it to open the app in standalone mode
Tip: If you do not see Add to Home Screen, make sure you are in Safari (not an in-app browser inside Instagram, Messages, or another app). Open the link in Safari first, then follow the steps above.
On Android, Chrome is the most reliable browser for installing Bridget. Other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Samsung Internet) may also support installation.
Option A — Install prompt:
—
Open Chrome and go to joinbridget.org
—
Sign in or create your account
—
When prompted, tap Install or Add to Home screen
—
Confirm the installation — Bridget will be added to your app drawer and home screen
Option B — Manual install from the menu:
—
Open joinbridget.org in Chrome
—
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
—
Tap Install app or Add to Home screen (wording may vary by device)
—
Follow the on-screen confirmation
After installation, launch Bridget from your home screen or app drawer — not from a browser tab — for the best full-screen experience.
When Bridget is running as an installed PWA, you should notice:
—
No browser address bar or tab bar at the top or bottom
—
The Bridget icon on your home screen opens directly into the feed
—
On iOS, the status bar blends with the app background
—
On Android, Bridget appears in your app list alongside other installed apps
If you still see a URL bar or browser controls, you are viewing Bridget inside a browser tab. Close the tab and open Bridget from your home screen icon instead.
Push notifications on iPhone require iOS 16.4 or later and Bridget must be installed as a home-screen app from Safari — they do not work when Bridget is open in a browser tab.
To enable notifications:
—
Make sure Bridget is added to your home screen from Safari (see 'How do I add Bridget to my home screen on iPhone?')
—
Open Bridget by tapping the icon on your home screen
—
During onboarding, tap Enable notifications when prompted — or go to the Settings tab and toggle Push notifications on
—
When iOS asks 'Allow Bridget to send you notifications?', tap Allow
If you previously tapped Don't Allow and want to re-enable:
—
Open the iPhone Settings app
—
Scroll down and tap Bridget (it appears as a standalone app entry if installed from your home screen)
—
Tap Notifications and turn Allow Notifications on
Note: If you do not see Bridget in iPhone Settings → Notifications, try removing the home-screen icon and reinstalling it from Safari, then enabling notifications during first launch.
Android supports push notifications in both the browser and when Bridget is installed as a home-screen app. Chrome is the most reliable browser for this.
To enable notifications:
—
Open Bridget in Chrome (or from your home screen if installed)
—
During onboarding, tap Enable notifications when prompted — or go to the Settings tab and toggle Push notifications on
—
When Chrome asks 'Allow joinbridget.org to send notifications?', tap Allow
If you previously tapped Block and want to re-enable:
—
In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu → Settings → Site settings → Notifications
—
Find joinbridget.org in the list and tap it, then set to Allow
—
Alternatively, go to Android Settings → Apps → Chrome → Notifications → Site notifications → find joinbridget.org → Allow
If Bridget is installed as a home-screen app, you can also manage its notifications directly in Android Settings → Apps → Bridget → Notifications.
The quickest way to turn off notifications is inside Bridget:
—
Open Bridget and go to the Settings tab
—
Find the Notifications section and toggle Push notifications off
You can also turn them off at the system level:
On iPhone: go to iPhone Settings → Bridget (or Safari) → Notifications → turn off Allow Notifications.
On Android: go to Android Settings → Apps → Chrome (or Bridget if installed) → Notifications → turn off notifications for joinbridget.org.
You can re-enable notifications at any time from the Settings tab inside Bridget.
Bridget requires an internet connection to watch videos and sync your progress. If you lose connection mid-session, you may need to reconnect before continuing.
Video playback depends on your network connection and device. Try these steps:
—
Check that you have a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection
—
Close and reopen Bridget from your home screen icon (not a browser tab)
—
On iOS, make sure Low Data Mode is not blocking media on your network
—
Update to the latest version of iOS or Android and your browser
—
If the issue persists, try signing out and back in, or reinstalling from your home screen
No. Bridget uses one account across web, mobile browser, and home-screen sessions. Sign in once and your progress, language preferences, and subscription status follow you wherever you open Bridget.
Removing the home-screen icon does not delete your account.
On iPhone:
—
Long-press the Bridget icon on your home screen
—
Tap Remove App, then Delete App or Remove from Home Screen
On Android:
—
Long-press the Bridget icon
—
Tap Uninstall or drag the icon to Uninstall
—
Alternatively, go to Settings → Apps → Bridget → Uninstall
